Craig Matson graduated from Augustana College with a degree in Business Administration and went on to obtain a Master of Business Administration degree from the University of South Dakota. Craig also has AIC and CPCU insurances designations. Upon graduation from Augustana College, Craig joined State Farm Insurance Companies in 1982. He ultimately became a manager for State Farm in claims with responsibilities in North Dakota, South Dakota and portions of Nebraska and Iowa. He worked for State Farm for nearly 36 years, leaving in August of 2018.
Craig lobbied for State Farm for 26 years, until his retirement from the company. He handled a myriad of issues for them including insurance, banking, tort law, employment law, safety and civil procedure. During his time with State Farm, he also lobbied for the South Dakota Insurance Alliance in South Dakota and limited Federal lobbying. For nearly 30 years Craig has continued with his lobby work and also has had many and various successful dealings with Government agencies regarding client issues.
Craig has continued his lobbying and government affairs work with clients in insurance, energy, petroleum, gaming and other special interests.
He is the Vice President and Legislative Chair for the South Dakota Insurance Alliance and the Chairman of the South Dakota Property and Casualty Guaranty Fund Board. He also has served in all five Chairs of the South Dakota Claims Association, including President.
